A College Experience - 1716 Words

As the forty-three year old working mom sat down, she is calm, yet there is a vibe of nervousness. The restaurant is quiet, excluding the older women in the back. When the interview starts it is very quiet and awkward, but once she starts to give more and more information about the process of college and the obstacles she overcame, the interview flows naturally. There are many forms of a college experience, there is not caring, there is learning, and there is having fun. Tracy Zalud, current third grade teacher, had a mixture of all of those during her years of attending Illinois State University. Before Tracy chooses to go to Illinois State, her main option is Northern Illinois University. When she gets the make it or break it letter back from Northern, it does not bring back good news. As the question about being accepted or not comes up, there is a slight disappointment in her eyes. She answers to a firm â€Å"No.† Then she continues to say, â€Å"I wanted to go to NIU more than ISU because I had a boyfriend that went there, but I didn’t get accepted there, so ISU was my only choice.† After hearing this response, the next question is if she regrets going to Illinois. She does not regret it, it ended up being the right choice, so the following up question requires her to explain why. She replies, â€Å"Um, because it was far enough away from home and what I really needed was to become independent and I didn’t know anybody when I was there, so I was forced to um meet new people.
